Heart rate reading failed? How to get a clean one
The app checks every recording before it shows a number. If your finger moved, too few beats came through, or the figures sit far outside what a resting heart produces, it asks you to try again rather than show a number with false confidence.
The usual causes
- Pressing too hard — the most common one. Rest the finger, don't push.
- Moving mid-recording. The app restarts rather than stitch across the gap and invent beats at the seam.
- The lens or flash only partly covered.
- Cold fingers or poor circulation.
- Bright sunlight leaking in around your finger.
Try this
- Sit down, rest your forearm on a table and relax your hand.
- Warm your fingers if they're cold.
- Cover both the lens and the flash with the pad of one fingertip, lightly.
- Stay still and breathe normally until the ring completes.
FAQ
- Why did I get a pulse but no variability figures?
- Variability needs clean beat-to-beat timing. When a recording supports a pulse but not reliable intervals, the app withholds those figures instead of printing a guess.
