What is a normal resting heart rate?
Your resting heart rate is your pulse when you're relaxed and still — ideally measured on waking. According to the American Heart Association, a normal resting heart rate for most adults is 60 to 100 beats per minute.
What affects it
- Fitness — well-conditioned athletes can rest closer to 40 bpm.
- Age and body size.
- Emotions, stress and caffeine.
- Air temperature, body position and medications.
How the app grades it
Rather than one fixed 60–100 band, the app grades your resting pulse against the typical range for your age and gender, using the profile you enter.
Important
Heart Rate & Health is a wellness app, not a medical device. It doesn't diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. If a reading worries you or you feel unwell, speak to a doctor.
FAQ
- Is a lower resting heart rate better?
- Generally a lower resting rate reflects a heart that moves more blood per beat, but a very low rate with dizziness or fainting needs a doctor's attention.
