How breathing rate is read from your pulse
Your beat intervals shorten slightly as you breathe in and lengthen as you breathe out — an effect called respiratory sinus arrhythmia.
How it's counted
- The app centers the series of beat intervals and counts how often it crosses the middle on the way up.
- It converts that to breaths per minute.
- It needs at least 20 clean beats and 20 seconds of recording.
- It only reports between 6 and 30 breaths per minute — outside that, the reading is far more likely to be noise than breathing, so nothing is shown.
FAQ
- Why is there no breathing rate on some readings?
- The recording didn't have enough clean beats, or the result fell outside 6–30 breaths per minute. Measure still, and a little longer, for the best chance.
