What is heart age?
Heart age answers a simple question: how do your pulse and variability compare with someone your age?
How it's worked out
- Roughly one year is added for every 1.5 bpm your resting pulse sits above the middle of your own normal band.
- Variability moves it the other way — sitting at the top of the typical RMSSD range reads younger.
- It's bounded to 15 years either side of your real age, because a single 45-second reading can't justify more.
How to read it
Treat it as an indicator of habits, not a medical assessment. Sleep, alcohol, caffeine and illness can all move it within a week.
FAQ
- Can I lower my heart age?
- The habits that lower resting pulse and raise variability — regular aerobic exercise, good sleep, less alcohol — tend to move it down over weeks.
